The Montana Orchid

Was I not just talking about my lack of a "green thumb" yesterday? Just yesterday?

Today I awoke to this beautiful orchid bloom. This plant was given to me by my friend Kacie back in Bozeman, several years ago. It is the only plant that left Montana last December, traveling south through endless days of a massive snowstorm, riding shotgun in a cup holder, carried inside at the end of each leg of the trip, only to end up on the back porch of a little house in south Texas. When we arrived with the ever wrinkling orchid I thought it was doomed to a slow and undeniable death, as all but one leaf fell from the plant. I nursed it back to health. New leaves emerged alongside a long spindly root. And now, this. A beautiful bloom with another one, yet a pea size, growing daily, and not a moment too soon. As today is....................................................the first day of Spring (emphasized with that really lonnnnnnnnnnnnnng Paul Harvey pause).

Happy Spring Everyone!
