Clark and I had been looking forward to the annual Big Bloom sale at the local botanical gardens. Last year we stumbled upon it unknowingly and lucked into an amazing array of hibiscus, jasmine, carnation of India, and plumeria (which are our only casualty from last year's loot). This year we scored an angel trumpet (Nelson's plant), a banana plant (Henry's choice), several Mexican heather starters, a cool purple grassy thing, a few mystery plants that somehow ended up in the wagon, and 2 super cool bromeliads for the porch.
After the garden spree we raced home to get ready for a birthday party. The boys loved the party but are still at an age that watching a little boy unwrap a jillion presents, and not one is for you, is pretty much torture .
Sunday was planting marathon day. The yard is looking lovely and things are really starting to thrive. It is so thrilling for me when things are growing and healthy and happy. And, for now, that is the way things seem to be operating in the backyard. That is not to say that the grubs, fungus', bugs, parasites, birds, etc. will not be taking up residence momentarily...
We wised up and brought along our own wagon this year.
Nelson and his BFF, Curby the Recycler. Nelson told him all about the "green boxes" we put our plastics in... Curby was very impressed. Henry, not suprisingly, would not go within 10 ft. of the weird guy that moved toward him saying, "don't be shy, Henry" as he cowarded behind me.
I love this picture.
The pergola and some of our new additions.
Here's to the end of a nice weekend...He drinks Coors and I drink Guinness, yet somehow we find a way to make it work.

NYC???!!!! I love that city. We've gone on vacation there 5 ... 6 ... times? ... I still love going back. Have a wonderful time!
I am impressed with your green thumb. I try hard to garden, but still rely a lot on my mom and father in law to help me out. Last year we planted 10 rose bushes and our yard looked like a Monet painting ( a small lie - but it really did look good). I look forward to being outside and planting more this spring. It is so weird to see pictures of you guys with shorts on. It has snowed 4 days out of the last 6, but I can still hear the baby birds chirping. How strange is that?
Great post, Paula.
i finally found somebody else in the world who likes Guinness!!
I've never known another soul that likes it besides myself. good to know. :)
have fun chillin' in the swing you two. looks like you deserve it.
Oooh Yay, it looks like somebody got Photoshop!!! Photos look great. Have fun in New York.
