Don't worry about me

It has happened. The time has finally come, and I am just fine. Sort of. Just don't ask, then I am fine.

I dropped the boys off for their very first day of school today. We have been together day-in and day-out for 5 years. They were so brave and excited and over me, which was what I was hoping for. Had they been wrapped around each of my legs, screaming, "don't leave us!" well, then I may not have been fine.

I got up early and packed a very first lunch in the little boxes that Nelson picked out, Transformers for him and Spiderman for his brother. It's hard to know if I packed the right foods. Will they want what the other kids are eating? Did I remember to cut Nelson's crust off? Yes, I did. Okay, so now I wait. I wait for the pickup, to hear all about the day, the new friends, games, what they learned. On our way to school I told them to remember everything so they could come home and teach me what they learn. Henry asked, "Why, did you forget what you learned at school?"
And, Nelson, on the way, stated, "This is going to be the best day ever!" That's a good attitude.

We had an open house on Friday evening. Nelson promptly walked up to Ms. Jones and stated, "I am an artist," and immediately went for the markers and paper. Did a quick sketch, and handed it to her as a parting gift. While I don't encourage my children to be teacher's pets, I thought this an excellent approach to winning her over early. Getting the best seats for he and his brother, the first snack, the first one in line for the drinking fountain. And, I didn't even tell him to do it.

Here are a couple of pics from this morning. My camera was plagued by the ridiculous humidity and are a bit fuzzy... Have I mentioned how hot it is down here? I have, really? Anyway, enjoy and don't worry 'bout me...

Oh Mama. :(

It is such a hard day to get through!

At least they have each other, right? And just wait, they will be so happy to see you. It will be the best part of their day (and yours!)

I thought about you all weekend - wondering if you were ready for all these changes. And yep, you are. Tough cookie.

XOXO

Val
