Here we go again...

We found out last week that our shot record is not in compliance with the state of Tex-Ass requirements. Did I just write that? Yes, I did. So, we are back to the doc next week for another shot. We have to get our second Hep A, this likely being the only state in the union that requires Hep A, but nonetheless they do.

A little tidbit... Prior to having my lovely children I worked with nurses in a childhood immunization clinic in Ohio. They were so fantastic to work with and filled my head with the importance of vaccinations for children. I never once questioned their advice, nor flinched with the growing paranoia of autism. Clark and I complied and stayed on schedule with every vaccination recommendation. One piece of advice that I always overheard them giving other parents was not to spring shots on the child at the last minute. They always thought it best to talk with your children prior to the appointment. Let them know what to expect and that it is okay for them to cry, that it will hurt for a few seconds, but ultimately that it is for the best.

Well, we tried this last week when we were going for our assumed flu shots. Clark casually mentioned it over lunch, very nonchalant. At first everything seemed fine until it was time to get ready to go.

Nelson, again so brave, asked, "So, it's okay if I cry a little bit?" Me, "Of course it is. You can even squeeze my hand as hard as you want to."

Henry, on the other hand, freaked! He ran, screaming, sobbing into his room. Stark naked as I am trying to dress him for our appointment. "I'm not going! I'm not going! I'm not going!" Getting his blubbering wet-noodle of a body into clothes was no easy task. Getting him loaded into the car was a whole other ordeal. I had to threaten Halloween parties, costumes, trick-or-treating....

It was too his great relief that they were in fact out of flu shots and he was spared the detrimental torture.

So, now we are going for this second Hep A. I'll be damned if I am going to breathe a word of it until that nurse comes in with needle in hand.... Sorry buddy.
