Island Camping

Clark and I have been campers for some time.  Pre-children we camped every summer, most weekends, and actually spent an entire month in a tent together in the northern stretches of Mongolia.  I do not know why this was Henry and Nelson's first experience on a real camping trip.. The backyard does not count.

One of Clark's childhood besties is visiting us for the week so we decided to give it a go.  It went so well, despite the evening onset of mosquitoes, I am just kicking myself for not going more in the past 6 years.

I followed the boys down the beach in my car as I was half expecting to be driving home at an unGodly hour with wet and/or sleepless boys.  After Clark and Shawn picked our spot, being the only woman on the adventure, I took it upon myself to stand up for all the inadequacies of said spot and after about 10 minutes of ranting and raving about why this was not a good spot we cleaned up the area a bit, put up the tents and settled in.  It turns out it was a great spot and we had a lovely evening. I shared a tent with H&N and after about 5 minutes of "I want my own bed," they fell asleep and I did not hear another word from them until morning.

Awesome! I bet sleeping on the beach and sand was great with the sound of waves in the background! Quite a bit different from sleeping in the woods, most of the time with a stick or rock under you! :0) We love camping too and got a family sized tent this summer but never made the trip. Next year we're planning on giving it a go for sure! I always love seeing Marli's camping pictures too! :0)

Wow! We remember walking to a beach in Dorset with you when you were 16 - just round that corner...and you and witney jumped in the sea in your jeans. And now look at the places you get to with your beautiful, beautiful boys! Much love Polly and Steve xxxx
