A Texas Spring

Texas spring comes early, especially South Texas spring. With the beautiful weather, endless days of sunshine, and boundless hours of outdoor enjoyment also comes bugs, lots of bugs.

This morning as I awoke to get the children up for school I noticed a Texas sized cockroach swimming in the toilet.  Ugh!  Flushed it. Grumbled to Clark about the ineffectiveness of our different poisons scattered about the house, in which he gave me his best Bob Marley quote, "The bugs need a place to live too".  Okay Bob's hair and my house are two different locations and I don't have the same level of tolerance.

I made my way to the kitchen to start the kettle for oatmeal... Sugar ants cruising along the baseboards. Ugh!  Swept them up.  Cuss some more. Put down more poison. Again, Clark chimes in... Mumbles something about the ineffectiveness of essential oils used for cleaning... I mumble something back about 3 males living in the house.

I shuffle the boys into their bathroom for hair combing and teeth brushing and immediately kill 3 mosquitoes on the mirror.  Ugh.  Mosquitoes. Already.  Could have something to do with an ineptness of said 3 males closing doors when coming in from the outside.

Back to the kitchen to finish preparing breakfast.  Greeted by blind snake cruising across the floor.  Catch it. Dispose of it. You'd think we lived in the freaking country. We don't.

Next, children at the table eating breakfast... Leaning back in their chairs I notice arms stretched way out to grab the spoon from the bowl. Grab the bagel from the plate. Bringing said food bite all the way across open space to the mouth. Crumbs, yogurt, cream cheese falling here and there...

FORTHELOVEOFGOD  "Sit up and eat over your plate!"

Anyhoo... Let's focus on the positive shall we.  The back garden is looking lovely and is playing host to a plethora of creepy crawlies that I have much more tolerance for..

I adore you.

It makes me happy that your home full of three boys - sounds a LOT like my house full of three boys.

Also, dying to know what a blind snake is!!

Ma'am, it would seem you are unavoidably outnumbered 3 to 1. Add the bugs, and the score is more likely 50 to 1. Keep going out into that beautiful backyard with your camera and that amazing eye of yours. Keep rediscovering little bits of serenity and even though some skirmishes are lost, the war is won.

Oh Sweet Paula. Your yard looks amazing and those tomatoes ... well, I just might put up with a bug or two for those babies!

As far as the boy thing ... I get it. Just keep telling yourself, "they love me, they love me, they love me." Seems to cure it most of the time (most).

XOXO.
