Beach Day

Our first beach day of the year was nothing less than spectacular... untitled-10 We unloaded our stuff amongst the mountains of seaweed washing ashore. This is a yearly phenomenon. Mounds of this stuff washes up for several months in the spring and summer. Then, come mid-July or so, it's gone. All degraded into the sand. If only the mounds of plastics and trash would do the same thing. untitled-5 untitled-4 It took some time for the boys to ease into the water. Not that the temps weren't perfect, but with the seaweed comes man-of-war whose tentacles become entangled in the mass. It was not long, however, that they could not stand it and headed out with their boogie boards. Their dad went to, at first, and once Nelson caught a bad wave, puked up his breakfast along with a bellyful of salt water, they began trying it on their own. No need for parental guidance. Such beautiful independence. untitled-6 untitled untitled-7 They did spend a lot of time under the umbrella building and digging. With sensitive winterized skin the first few trips are best spent in a little shade. untitled-3 untitled-2 untitled Dad, of course, was the entertainment. untitled-8 And me, the documenter... untitled-9

I like that. I actually think from now on when people ask me what I do for a living, instead of saying I'm a photographer, I'm just going to say I'm a documenter. It's much more of an accurate depiction. Really, that's what we do, whether we're on the job or just hanging out at the beach. We document. Good words Paula.
